I think that therein lies the challenge with kindness. To either continue to demonstrate it to others especially if others don't receive it well, and also to continue to be kind even if it has no effect on the recepient.
But...
We are called to be kind, to exhibit the best of what Christ offers no matter what. The golden rule is what it is because it is doing good, being kind, living Jesus and showing him through others even when others treat us unkind, and disrecpectfully.
The ethics of the gospel demand that those who wear the name of Jesus live like Jesus.
May we all learn to be kind in the spirit and power of Jesus Christ.
